First Blog in 2 months and Last Blog of the Year

Tue, 2008-12-30 07:54.
Brian Burton

Short & Sweet:

If 2008 sucked for you let's hope 09 is the complete opposite

and if 2008 was great for you, let's hope 09 isn't quite as good. That way the rest of us can get some of that good.

Happy New Year everybody

Dear On-Line listener

Thu, 2008-10-30 08:03.
Brian Burton
This is a blog especially for our on-line listeners. Those of you that listen to today's country while networking on face-book or chatting on-line with your friends, or for those that listen to the Sens game while stuck at work on a Saturday night.

It's a small world after all

Tue, 2008-10-28 09:12.
Brian Burton

You know how they say it's a small world? I always thought this was kind of silly because in reality it's huge. But every now and then something happens and you just have to say it.

Case in point; I have known this guy for a few years now, talked to him every now and then at various functions, station related events or just in passing on the street. I got an email the other day asking me if I ever lived in Petawawa back in the 70's. As a matter of fact I did. I was an Army brat; actually I was a well-behaved, studious Army kid. Yeah right!!! . Anyway, we were posted to Petawawa in 1972 from CFB Borden. I have 2 memories of that first fall. The first is the day we arrived in Petawawa, the movers had already been there and all the stuff was in the house with boxes everywhere. I found the couch and the TV and plopped down in the middle of all the boxes and watched a baseball game. I don't know why I remember this it wasn't even the Red Sox playing.

Flutie Day

Thu, 2008-10-23 07:08.
Brian Burton

Next to Ron Lancaster who passed away last month Doug Flutie is the greatest Quarterback to ever play in the CFL. He's also the best QB to never get a chance to star in the NFL. Buffalo and San Diego may you never win a Super Bowl for your treatment of the diminutive one. At least New England gave him a chance to retire in style with his drop kick in 2006 against Miami, the first since 1941. Flutie's career started at Boston College where he will forever be remembered for his Hail Mary pass to beat Miami in what is considered one of the greatest moments in college football, so it was nice to see him get a chance to go out in style with New England. Doug is 46 today and still looks like a teenager and could probably still outplay a lot of the Quarterbacks in the CFL and there are NFL teams that could use a good scrambler like Flutie.

Flu Shot

Brian Burton
Cold & Flu season is almost here, although I swear I've been through a couple already.  Some people swear by the flu shot but I never swear near anyone with a big needle. I'm here all week.

Thanksgiving Jam

Fri, 2008-10-10 09:33.
Brian Burton

What a weekend, the Thanksgiving Long Weekend. Even for someone like me that has to work a lot of the weekend, and by working, I mean getting paid or fed booze to do things, and by things I mean play music or introduce people who play music, and by music I mean, okay enough of that.

First of all  I will be partying with the good poeple of Killaloe, and by partying I mean watching other people have a good time while I spin the tunes, which in itself is a good time. It's a Satg & Doe for Rachel & Matt, hope it wasn't a surprise, whoops.

Sunday night it's the 14th Annual Thanskgiving Jam with Sab and the gang at Shot's. I work really hard there, between Beer, I get up and introduce the next band, giveaway prizes and feel like a rock star for 30 seconds. I'll get to hold a guitar again this year because we have another Autographed Guitar to Auction off.

And then it's back to work Monday morning here, sitting in my chair drinking coffee, playing music, chatting about whatever, giving away money and going home at 10am, tough life, but somebody has to do it.

oh yeah in the middle of all that I will be watching the Red Sox try to win another World Series, I'll have to tape it though and watch it when I should be sleeping. Oh well, I'll sleep when I'm dead.

Have a great weekend, eat lots of Turkey, drink lots but don't drive and maybe I'll see you out there somewhere where I'm Hardly Working.

The Scoop On Poop

Wed, 2008-10-08 06:55.
Brian Burton
This mornings Almost Impossible Question was "What famous book was written on a dare, to write a book using 50 different words. The Answer was Dr. Seuss' "Green Eggs and Ham"
The first guess we got was "Everyone Poops"  I was completely thrown off by this and thought the caller was joking. Turns out it is a book and was mentioned in the Steve Carrell comedy "Dan In Real Life" It's a Japanese Children's Book written by Taro Gomi and called Minna Unchi. The funny thing is the cover of the book has a picture of a kid, goose, donkey and an apple. 1 of things doesn't belong. 1 of these things doesn't poop, it may make you poop. Can you guess which one.
It's a funny book for kids and according to one review it's a pretty good poop book. As poop books go this is one of the best and I'm not shitting you.

While searching for this info I found that there are lots of books about "Poop"
My favorite is the second book in the series" it's called "The Gas We Pass, The Story Of Farts"
there's also "What's Your Poo telling You"

If you really get on a poop kick, you can also read; The Truth About Poop, Where's The Poop, It Hurts When I Poop

And one final thought(s) on Poop

Do Not Call

Tue, 2008-09-23 08:03.
Brian Burton

We are one week away from being able to sign up for the Do Not Call List. No more pesky telemarketers, ever again. Actually I'll believe this when it happens. Some computer geek will figure out a way around this.  But hey, it's worth a shot.

Senators Scramble - etrbs rba  -  Bert's Bar -  Congrats to Melissa Lang who has won 2 tix to Saturday's game & a Sens Amry T-shirt.

Country Cash song will be played when a lot of people are eating, probably not at a table or with families though.

The Smorning in a Blog

Brian Burton

I am going to try to Blog everyday and try to include the answer to the days Almost Impossible and any other contest that we had on the morning show. Right now we are giving away Sens Tickets so I will include the winning word(s) plus the status of the days Country Cash Song. A little insider info for those that read the blog.

Free Sens Tickets

The good news about fall arriving next week is that Hockey season can't be far behind. The Pembroke Lumber Kings begin their season tonight and after an 8-0 pre-season it looks to be another great year.

CD shopping

Thu, 2008-09-11 08:38.
Brian Burton
I was at a CD retailer on Tuesday checking out the New Releases like I do every week. It's the only thing I have in common with Elton John, Thank God, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Bring on Winter

Thu, 2008-09-04 08:43.
Brian Burton

Okay, so I'm getting a lot of crap from people because I want winter to hurry up and arrive. It's not because I like shoveling snow or freezing my butt off or that I enjoy winter activities because I don't. Then why you ask, for the love of God do I want winter. Why? I'll tell you why. Because in the winter all flying bugs are dead and I hate flying bugs. First it's the mosquito's making the first couple of months of summer unbearable. Then it's the flies; the big black annoying ones, the deer or horse flies when you're trying to enjoy swimming, little black flies on the golf course, fruit flies all over the kitchen and the worst ones of all the little green buzzy ones that won't leave your food alone when you are trying to enjoy a nice summer BBQ.  In the wintertime they are all dead or hibernating in the coat of a sleeping Bear.

Freedom 45 will have to wait another day or so.

Thu, 2008-08-28 08:43.
Brian Burton

Another Lotto 6/49 draw has gone by and once again I didn't win. The good news is that nobody won the jackpot (8 Million). I say good news because if I don't win I don't want anyone to win unless they are related to me or are planning on sharing it with me. I guess retirement will have to wait till the next draw.

Going For Gold

Tue, 2008-08-12 07:34.
Brian Burton
Okay I am back from my Away-cation but it still feels like I'm on Vacation, I cannot tell you why it just does. One thing I did while I was off was to go and sign the Support Our Troops banner which will be going to the troops in Afghanistan in a couple of weeks.

The Away-Cation

Fri, 2008-08-01 08:56.
Brian Burton
It was brought to my attention that I haven't blogged in over a week. I've been busy, which translate to I'm too lazy. Actually I just haven't thought of anything to blog about, which translate to, I lead a very boring life. So I thought before I go on holidays I would blog about Holidays. This year it's all about the Stay-cation because of the gas prices. I don't have any plans because of the weather, you just can't count on getting any nice weather.

Also I have a Wedding, the Waterfront Festival, dentist appointment and who knows what else during my vacation, so I can't go far. Instead of a vacation or a stay-cation, I like to call it an Away-Cation, which translates to, being away from work no matter what you do is still a vacation. Have a good long weekend and hope to see everybody at the Waterfront Festival in Pembroke next weekend.

The Sounds Of Summer

Thu, 2008-07-24 07:59.
Brian Burton

There are so many summer sounds, some good, some bad and some Loud!!

First, the good  -  The Sounds of Summer Contest. This morning we held our Grand Prize draw  with John Birch GM of Canadian Tire Pembroke. Congrats to Steven Beauchamp of Pembroke who's won the Briggs & Stratton 1900psi Pressure Washer. He'll have fun with that this summer. Stray cats and dogs in the neighborhood may want to watch out.

I Love A Rainy Day!!!

Fri, 2008-07-18 08:19.
Brian Burton
I must be the only one out there that's not tired of the rain this year. It's still one of my favorites sounds especially when it includes Thunder!!!!! I also love lightning and the big winds that come with summer storms, especially when they are cools winds, because I hate the heat. I don't like the rain when I'm golfing though or when I have to do a Wedding outdoors like I do tomorrow. It's supossed to be nice Saturday but really hot, I wish somebody would invent a mini portable air conditioner. One final thought before I bid adieu. Is anyone else sick and tired of the stupid flies. Go find your own food!!!

Here's hoping your weekend includes a little Peace, Love & Understanding and some sunshine.

It's a small world but I wouldn't want to paint it

Tis the season and the year for reunions in our area. 2 local high schools that I had some affiliation with are holding reunions. Bishop Smith, which still exists, is holding their reunion this weekend.

Hey, who stole my blog?

Mon, 2008-07-07 09:43.
Brian Burton

I had posted a very funny picture on my blog last week. At least I thought it was funny. The guy in the picture is my Mom's neighbor and he has the stupidest moustache ever. I thought it looked like Hitler and since he was at the Military Museum at the time of the picture, I thought it was pretty ironic. Evidently someone found it distasteful and removed it. Maybe if I said it looked like a fat, bald Charlie Chaplin, it wouldn't have been removed. Or maybe our competition at the Observer didn't like me stealing there hard work. Either way it is gone and so is my joy in looking at it everyday. maybe I'll go over to my Mom's and sit on the front lawn and everytime he comes outside, I'll salute him.  Heil

You know you're from Canada when

Mon, 2008-06-30 08:42.
Brian Burton

Tomorrow is Canada Day. A day to drink Canadian, eat Back Bacon and Poutine and listening to Canadian music but not Barenaked Ladies or Great Big Sea.

You know you're from Canada when...

You're not offended by the term, "Homo Milk."
You understand the phrase, "Could you pass me a serviette, I just spilled my poutine"
You know what a Mickey and 2-4 are.
You don't care about the fuss with Cuba. It's a cheap place with good cigars.
You know that a pike is a type of fish, not part of a highway.
You have Canadian Tire money in your kitchen drawers.
You know what a toque is, you eat back bacon and you know you don't wear Hosers eh!
The biggest news story of the last month was the "Hockey Night in Canada." theme ordeal

Hannibal Lecture (and yes I meant Lecture not Lecter)

Thu, 2008-06-19 09:29.
Brian Burton

This morning I interviewed Hannibal, professional wrestler and promoter of the Wrestling Supershow that is coming to Pembroke tomorrow Night at the PMC. Unlike my interview with Abdullah The Butcher, Hannibal was actually sitting in the same room as me and looking mighty hungry, I might add. Between taking shots at Sycho Sid, Abdullah, Pembroke Hicks, Fat Ugly Women and British Women he was a relatively friendly Cannibal, I mean person.

A Blog just to Blog #336

Thu, 2008-05-15 07:00.
Brian Burton

I'm being out blogged this week and I'm way too competetive to let that happen.

Now since I don't have a new car to gush about, then again I don't think I've ever had feelings for a big hunk of steel before but hey, to each his own. Note to James, if you're looking for a good tune to crank out of the Beems 16 sepeakers. Try Queen's "I'm In Love With My Car" from one of the great Rock albums ever "Night At The Opera"

I also haven't been dunked at a charity event recently nor do I have the desire to share my most intimate feelings, oh wait I have none. So what to Blog about, that is the question.

Litterbugs bug me

Mon, 2008-05-12 08:07.
Brian Burton
I guess I'll finish what I started this morning. This is why I never start anything.

I was talking about how the City of Pembroke's Community In Blooms committee kicked off their campaign on Saturday at the Farmer's market.  Yet, just feet away at the Marina there was garbage everywhere, not their fault but if the city emptied the garbage cans every now and then, it might help. I say "might" because there are still "Lazy, Inconsiderate, Ignorant, Dirty, did I say lazy yet, okay you get the idea, people out there littering the planet.  Put your fast food containers, coffee cups, cigarettes packs in the garbage, stop dumping the contents from your car ashtrays in the parking lot. And although it seems to be okay for some reason, stop dropping your cigarette butts everywhere. Why is it okay to do this, you see it outside businesses, in parks, at the schools and even outside hospitals for crying out loud!!! Oh how I wish I could be a Litter Cop. I'd do it for free or for a cut of the fines I would elicit. Oh yeah there would be plenty of fines, so many I would have to go to F.A. (Fine-aholics anonymous)

Crawling through the week

Wed, 2008-05-07 07:29.
Brian Burton

This morning we talked about swimming and Ashley said she never heard of the Front Crawl. Here's what Wikipedia had to say about the apparent "non-existant swimming style"

Front crawl, also known as the Ellie or Australian crawl, is usually regarded as the fastest swimmingstyle developed. The most universaly used free-style at Olympics

Here's a video on how to properly swim the front crawl, so you don't splash or drown the person swimming in the next lane.

Celebrity Slam Time

Thu, 2008-05-01 08:19.
Brian Burton
It's been a week since I last blogged. Hey it sounds like I'm at confessional. Anyway today I am blogging about Celebrities and why we make fun of them. I have been getting emails from a listener upset that in the morning we take shots at certain celebrities.  First of all, all media makes fun of celebrities, that's why they do the stupid things they do, they love the attention (most of them anyway). Secondly, the parodies that get played are produced in the U.S. and played at stations all over North America, so I'm sure the Celebs get to hear some of them. I mean I produce the Parodies every morning in the Star Studio's and they get played all over North America.

Carly Video and Idol Chit Chat

Thu, 2008-04-24 06:09.
Brian Burton

Not that I'm really watching American Idol this year especially now that they voted off Kristy Lee Cook last week. She could have been the next Carrie Underwood, very cute but getting married. Anyway last night Carly Smithson was voted off, much to the chigrin of a lot of people. Carly used to be known as Carly Henessey and had an album many years ago that bombed (2001 Ultimate High)

Below is a link to a video. It's not bad.

Playoffs Round 2 predicitons

Wed, 2008-04-23 09:45.
Brian Burton

Alright, so the Senators are out and now my Bruins are gone, but I still have interest in the playoffs and there's unfinished business to take care of. Go Sharks and Go Away Montreal.

Here are the morning show predictions for the next round from a so-called expert Me. and a curling fan Ashley. I think she even predicted a "Sweep" in one of the series.

Eastern Conference

Montreal/Philadelphia   Ashley - Montreal in 5  /  Brian -  Philly in 7

Pittsburgh/NY Rangers  Ashley - Pens in 4      /   Brian - Pens in 6

C.H.E.O. and Blood Donor Clinics

Mon, 2008-04-14 05:21.
Brian Burton

Back In The Studio today after spending most of last week in the cafateria at CHEO for the 1st Annual "Have A Heart for CHEO" Radiothon. or as some called it a Radio-A-Thon. It was a huge success raising over $230, 000 for an amazing place, and the best part of all is that every single dollar goes to CHEO. It was a real eye opener to me in so many ways. Most of all though is how these kids who have had to deal with so much at such a young age, have this amazing spirit and determination.  It's obvious that CHEO is a huge part of this attitude that is instilled in these kids. The next time you have to wait at the Walk-in clinic or hospital for a couple of hours, or cringe at the thought of giving blood or even getting a simple needle, imagine receiving 700 plus needles by the time you are 21, numerous Chemo treatments, hundreds of surgeries, or instead of going to a dance or movie or concert you spend your adolescent years in and out of hospital (mostly in) and when you're not you don't have the energy to do anything.  Waiting at a red light will never bother me again, nor will going to the doctor for a check up, I won't make up an excuse next time I'm ask to give blood. (see below for Blood Donor Clinic info) Most of all I can't wait to get back to CHEO next year to raise more money and to see all those amazing people who make up CHEO.  On a lighter note, I can't wait to get back there for the food. Soooo Good.

The Day My Wife Met My Girlfriend

Spring is here!!! No really it is. really.

Wed, 2008-03-26 06:09.
Brian Burton

Great start to the Baseball season yesterday. The World Champion Boston Red Sox started the defense of their title by beating Oakland 6-5 in 10 innings in Tokyo. I know what you're saying, either who cares? Or how can you start thinking baseball with 4 feet of snow on the ground and the Hockey season getting into playoff mode. Especially considering the fact that I didn't get into hockey mode until after the Super Bowl, who won that anyway? Not important. Baseball is the real first sign of spring, not the Robin, the groundhog, the melting snow (which might never happen this year) or even the warmer weather. No, it's Baseball. The Boys of Summer are really the Men Of Spring. Having said that, why was Don Henley singing about the Boys of Summer anyway? I prefer the Girls of Summer.  Where was I going with that?  I forget, oh well never mind. Spring is here with the start of the baseball season and summer will arrive with the start of the Beach Volleyball season, sorry Don Henley, only Girls Beach Volleyball please. And hey a reason to watch the Beijing Olympics, Beach Volleyball woo hoo.

Easter facts form a lazy blogger

Thu, 2008-03-20 07:30.
Brian Burton

For those wondering about Easter being so early this year. Here ya go.

The dating of Easter is based on the Hebrew lunar calendar used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.

Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare.

This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives!  And only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (95 years old or above!).  And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier!

The next time Easter will be this early will be the year 2228 (220 years from now).  The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones who were around for that!).

My Favorite Holidays

Tue, 2008-03-18 09:02.
Brian Burton

I can't believe I forgot to blog yesterday, actually I can because it was St. Patrick's Day and my mind was elsewhere. The Emerald Isle maybe? No, I'm not actually Irish and only have the desire to travel to places with Sandy beaches, bikini's, beer, lots of sea food and maybe some golf.

So why do I like St. Patrick's day then?

The same reason I celebrate the U.S. Thanksgiving - I'm not American. Cinco De Mayo - I'm not Mexican. Chanukkah - I'm not Jewish.  I think I just like all the different cultures and their traditions. Because as a W.A.S.P. what do I have to celebrate other than the same Hallmark Holidays everybody else does. Speaking of Hallmark Holidays, Easter is this weekend so even though I'm not Catholic I will eat fish on Good Friday and of course Turkey on Sunday with some White Chocolate Easter Bunny or the Chocolate Crispy Bunny, wait no the Peanut Butter eggs, and oh yeah!!! the Easter Creme Eggs. Mmmmm Good Holiday.

My Day In Court

Thu, 2008-03-13 08:35.
Brian Burton
I had a neat albeit long and boring experience yesterday. I went to court, but this time as a witness. Sounds exciting, right? Wrong!  It was the old "Hurry up and wait" routine. You are summoned to be there at 9:30 and if you're not, they'll issue a bench warrant to have you picked up. Then you sit around all morning while other cases are tried first. But that was okay because it gave me a chance to tour the new Court House in Pembroke, which still incorporates some of the old, including the jail. They still have cells that you can check out and someone said the hook from the old hanging gallows is still there.

Bring us your Teddy Bears

Thu, 2008-03-06 10:35.
Brian Burton
This morning we passed along a request from a young listener (Cheyenne Astle) who will be spending March break in Ottawa at Ronald McDonald House. She has been visiting her new niece there who was born pre-mature on Valentine's Day. She has seen so many sick kids there who could really use something to smile about. She wanted us to put the word out to get listeners to drop off Teddy Bear's for her to take to Ottawa to hand out to the Boys and Girls.  It was short notice but we thought we'd give it a shot. Within 2 hours we had 4 garbage bags full of Bears' and a few Easter Bunnies.

R.I.P Jeff Healey (Rock In Peace)

Tue, 2008-03-04 20:06.
Brian Burton

"While his fans and family gently weep"

Jeff Healey  1966-2008   Canadian legend Jeff Healey died of Cancer on Monday

Didn't get to formally meet him but I did see him perform and I was at the Juno Awards in Ottawa in 2003 when Jeff presented Tom Cochrane with the Hall Of Fame Award. I also bumped into him at a Juno after party, literally bumped into him. Almost knocked him into the fondue. His wife said he's always falling into things and I said that I had already dipped my coat in the chocolate and I can see. The next time I'm in  Toronto, I am going to Jeff Healey's Roadhouse and if you get the chance and haven't seen it, rent Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze and starring a very young Jeff Healey.

Happy Leap Day

Fri, 2008-02-29 09:45.
Brian Burton

So it's a leap year, meaning one extra day this year, something that only happens every

4 years. Although the Leap year does gets skipped sometimes. A century year is not a leap year unless it is divisible by 400. 1700, 1800 & 1900 were not leap years. 1600, 2000 were and so will 2400. I know, nice useless fact. There are 22,000 Leaplings in Canada, 4 million worldwide. A Leapling is someone who is born on February 29th. Imagine only having a Birthday every 4 years, even better if the body aged that way too. How about getting married February 29th? Perfect for guys, they'd only have to remember every 4 years. Happy Leap Day, enjoy your extra day and have a great weekend.

Circles

Thu, 2008-02-28 08:44.
Brian Burton

Okay so I've been swimming a lot lately, no not outside, it's still too cold. They say it's good for you and this old body can use it. Here's my beef though.

They have Open Swim, Adult Swim & Seniors Swim. But no matter which one you go to there are seniors there. And no I don't have anything against seniors especially the ones that actually swim. It's the ones that just stand in the water or bounce in one spot or better yet the ones who act like those annoying people in Wal-Mart that stand in the aisles talking. That's what coffee shops and your living rooms are for. And what's with the circles. "You have to swim in circles", how do you swim in a circle in a square pool?  Who are you Rob Schneider?

Attack of the Killer B's

Wed, 2008-02-27 08:19.
Brian Burton

How ‘bout them Senators, what a game last night. It was awesome. I know any Sens fans reading this Blog have now stopped and left the website. If you are still reading, I will clarify. Of course I don't dislike the Senators but I have been a Bruin fan since I could hold a hockey stick and shoot a puck in a net. Hey the Sens could use that skill right about now. I regress. What's goin' on with the Sens, the scoring has dried up. Maybe they should have tried to get Chara back. He got more goals last night then the Sens whole team has scored in the last 7 periods. Alright that's the last shot I take, now hopefully Spezza, Heatley and Alfie will start shooting.  Trade deadline yesterday and the Sens made one move, Martin Lapointe from Chicago. Not bad, he has 2 Stanley Cup rings and he's a leader, not afraid to kick some #%@&$ watch out Ray Emery.

Trade deadline

Tue, 2008-02-26 09:47.
Brian Burton

Too busy watching the trade deadline stuff to Blog today.

But seeing as I am not being paid to watch TSN, I better write something here.

My predictions at 9:30 am Tuesday.   Ray Emery traded to Florida for a bag of Oranges.

GM Bryan Murray decides to keep John Paddock as coach and instead takes over

between the pipes ala Lester Patrick in the 1928 Stanley Cup final for the NY Rangers.

And Marian Hossa decides to come back to Ottawa because he misses the ribs at Marshy's

Tune in tomorrow morning and we'll have all the trades for ya.

Oh yeah and sorry Sens fans but you're going down again tonight. Go Bruins!!!!!!!!!

Trades, McMelts, and $#@% Matt Damon

Mon, 2008-02-25 10:15.
Brian Burton

Tomorrow is a big day for Hockey Fans. The trade deadline is here and let's hope there are lots of big deals this year. The last couple of years there was lots of hype and little action. The Sens should be big players this year and speaking of Big Players, Marian Hossa is the guy everyone wants. I hope he ends up in Boston, especially if he wants to go to a cup contender.

Also tomorrow we start the McDonald's E-quest, so while you are here make your request and if we play it at 7:35 am you will win 10 Cinnamon Melts and Coffee from McDonalds. Which reminds me, I'll have to stop in on my way to work tomorrow to try 1 or 2.

Star Country will be smokin' this summer

Family day

Happy Family day to the 36% that plan on spending today with their family.

The other 64% either have to work or don't like their families. I am one of the working stiffs today. But that's okay because where else would you find out that it's wet and slippery on the roads and sidewalks? Who else would tell you what's open and what's closed? Or that the buses in the Pontiac were cancelled. Nobody, that's who.

Star 96 like the mail carriers have a motto "through rain, sleet or snow, we will always let you know.  The only difference is, they get paid a heck of lot more.

Well made it through another week 7 more importantly made it through another Valentine's Day and didn't have to sleep on the couch. Woo Hoo.

Of course this weekend for some is a long weekend. That brand new holiday "Family Day" that has left many of us confused. Who gets it off?  What's open? What's Not? and more importantly what the Heck is "Family Day" and where did it come from?   Well you can thank South Africa, U.S. Presidents and Dalton McGuinty.    Here you go, read all about it!!    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Day

No matter where you are driving these days you see advertising whether it be billboards, sandwich boards (no you can't eat them) and those mobile signs that some think look very tacky. Either way they are all used to get the message out. I prefer them to be used in a humorous way or to advertise an event or to show support for our troops. Speaking of humorous we got talking on the morning show a couple of weeks ago about one of those signs outside a Church in the U.S. that caused such an uproar that it became fodder for the media all over North America and eventually they had to change the sign. Winter's back!!  I think I like the snow better, although you don't have to shovel the cold.

Anyway watched a bit of the Granny's last night, and yes I meant to put n's instead of m's. You have to be a Grandparent or dead to win. Herbie Hancock best album, Johnny Cash won again, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill (almost a grandpa) Okay Amy Winehouse and Kanye West aren't that old but the old people who vote are afraid of them so they let them win everything.

Emerson Drive lost out to the Eagles which I guess is alright, Carrie Underwood picked up a couple of Country awards and Keith Urban and Brad Paisley won as well. Taylor Swift lost out to Amy Winehouse for best new artist but has better odds of still being around in a couple of years.

Wow, 3rd day of Blogging and I'm out of Blog fodder. Yeah that's right, I'm up on my Blog lingo.

After re-reading my Blogs and some other Blogs on our website, I have come to the realization that nobody else other than the author will care about anything we are saying. And that's okay because that's the true definition of Blog.

Blog      n.

Short for weblog.
A meandering, blatantly uninteresting online diary that gives the author the illusion that people are interested in their stupid, pathetic life.

As an Algonquin College graduate in the Broadcasting program in Ottawa, I often think how much easier it would have been for me, and by easier I mean cheaper (live at home off Mom & Dad) if the program was offered at the Pembroke Campus. Who knows maybe someday it will be, they are adding new programs every year and with this of course comes more students and they have run out of room at the current location. They are looking in the next couple of years at relocating and building a much bigger Campus but they need our help. To start you can go the website below to get more info and make sure to fill out the petition.     Algonquincollege.com/pembrokenewcampus

I also wanted to take this time to mention the 3000 plus soldiers from CFB Petawawa that are headed down to Texas to start training for the next deployment in Afghanistan. Lieutenant Hennessy is with the troops in Texas and will join us on the Morning show every Thursday while they are there to fill us in on what's going on. Don't forget tomorrow is Friday so wear Red and show your support for our troops and their Families. And if you get the chance to drive to Petawawa this weekend, help support the businesses that suffer when the population is depleted like this.

First off, what the Hell is a Blog?

Secondly what do I do I write on my Blog??

and finally who would want to read it ???

Well here goes and if you are reading this, Thank You!  And Wow you really must be bored.

Since I had no idea what to write about I thought I would steal some ideas by looking at Adam's first Blog. Now I really don't know what to write about because he stole all my ideas. Although I do have a response to his Super Bowl comment. Saying a good time was had by all is not necessarily true. Granted the company was good, the Beer was COLD and the food was Awesome. The game sucked. Well for me anyway. Did you ever watch a game and think, if I was the caoch they would've won because I would've done this or that. Well, if I was the coach of the Patriots we would have won the Superbowl. There I go with the WE, like I own the team or play for them. Okay so the game didn't totally suck, there were commercials, which were alright, especially if you saw the U.S. feed. Much better than Corner Gas and American Idol promo's. The halftime show was good, Tom Petty rocked and speaking of Tom's, Brady's girlfriend supermodel Gisselle Buncheon looked good but she jinxed the Patriots, just like jessica Simpson, the Cowboys. Oh well, if they had won they would have been perfect and then what would be left to achieve. Now they can go for 19-0 next year.
