Graphic Novel Contest

Do you have a talent for creating illustrated short stories?
You are invited to enter Pembroke Public Library’s Graphic Novel Contest for all ages
as part of our Summer Reading Program 2012. This contest is sponsored by Pembroke Public Library
with the generous support of Mike & Mary Ellen Douglas, Lapointe Auto Group & Giant Tiger.
How to Enter:
• Create your own graphic novel with a minimum length of 4 pages & maximum length of 8
pages of text and black-and-white drawings using letter-size paper, including the cover page.
• Your submission must be the creative and original work of an individual.
• Include your NAME, AGE and CONTACT INFORMATION on the back of your entry.
• Submit a photocopy that is an accurate reflection of the original (please do not submit original
work as submissions are non-returnable).
• Entries to be submitted to Pembroke Public Library no later than 5:30 p.m. on
Tuesday, July 31, 2012.
• There is a limit of one entry per contestant.
• All entry criteria must be met in order for your entry to be accepted in the contest.
Entries will be judged on content and illustration by a panel of Art and Comic professionals. Prizes
may be awarded as Gift Certificates. Awards Presentation Party: Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at
7 pm. Come in costume as a Manga/Graphic Novel/Anime character (encouraged/optional).
Children (up to age 12): first prize $50; second prize $25; third prize $20
Teens (ages 12-18): first prize $100; second prize $75; third prize $50

First Annual Dan Gorman Memorial Lecture

Sponsored by the Bromley Historical Society, it will take place in the old Bromley town hall, 498 Micksburg Road, Osceola, at 2:00 pm. Retired Bromley school teacher, Lauretta Rice, will speak about Pine Valley School Days where she taught in the late 1950s. The Memorial Lecture commemorates Professor Gorman, a former Society member and supporter who sadly passed away in 2011. A pupil at the Pine Valley school, he often wrote about it fondly. The event is open to the public. Those attending are encouraged to bring mementos of their school days. Refreshments will be served and a commemorative tree planting will also take place.

The ladies have been busy preparing quilts for this show over the last two years. There will be hundreds of quilts on display. First Annual Michael Bennett Memorial Golf Tournament

It is an 18 hole four person scramble golf tournament followed by a roast beef dinner and prizes.The cost of the tournament is $75 dollars a person or $300 for a team of four. All proceeds will go to the Michael Bennett foundation which includes a bursary at Fellowes High School and also supports local athletes and teams.
