Round Lake Centre Fatal Fire

An overnight fire in Round Lake Centre has claimed the life of a well-known Ottawa Valley priest.

Rev. George Olsen died in the blaze that destroyed the rectory of St. Casimir's Church.

The fire was discovered around midnight by an OPP officer on regular patrol.

Crews from the Killaloe-Hagarty-Richards fire department responded quickly but were unable to save the building.

They did, however, manage to keep the flames from spreading to the nearby church.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office is assisting with the investigation into the cause of the fatal fire.

Algonquin College

Algonquin College students have a new service club on campus.

It's called the Circle K Club and it's led by students and sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.

CKI is a co-educational service, leadership development, and friendship
organization, organized and sponsored by a Kiwanis Club on a college or
university campus.

It is a self-governing organization and elects its own
officers, conducts its own meetings, determines its own service activities,
and establishes its own dues structure.

Troops Came Home

Last night 55 soldiers based at CFB Petawawa were reunited with their families.

Now until the end of December 2,300 troops with Task Force 1-10 will be coming home.

TF 1-10 is made up of The First Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group, the Operational Mentor Liaison Team, Task Force Engineers, the National Support Element, the Health Services Support Company, and the MP Company.

PRH Auxiliary Commits to New Fundraising Goal

The Pembroke Regional Hospital is getting another boost from the Auxiliary.

The PRH Auxiliary is thrilled to announce it has made a 1.7 million dollar commitment to replace the Hospitals cardiac monitoring equipment in the emergency department, intensive care unit and medical program by 2013.

This newly announced fundraising pledge is the next milestone the Auxiliary is working toward and they have already raised 151 thousand dollars towards that goal.

You may be receiving a phone call as part of A Community Satisfaction Survey that's underway in the area by the OPP to solicit public opinions about the services that the OPP detachments deliver to communities throughout the region.

The Community Satisfaction Survey is a telephone survey that randomly selects members of the public who are 16 years or older. It only takes about 5 minutes to do and is completely voluntary.

Single Vehicle Collision

Renfrew OPP continue to investigate a single vehicle collision that took place yesterday on Highway 132 just west of Merchant Road in Greater Madawaska Township.

The investigation so far indicates that a Ford Explorer was heading west on Highway 132 when it left the road and entered the ditch around 7:30 in the morning.

The 44 year old driver from Windsor was airlifted to a hospital in Ottawa with unknown injuries.

Remembrance Day

Among the Remembrance Day Services across the Valley, Algonquin College in Pembroke will also be holding a service.

Starting at 10:30 this morning in the campus cafeteria students who are either regular forces or reservists in the Canadian Armed Forces as well as a World War II Veteran will be in attendance.

It will be a traditional Remembrance Day Service including playing of Last Post, a moment of silence, and laying of wreaths, and the lighting of the Eternal Flame.

Eganville Man Arrested on Drug Charges

An Eganville man has been arrested in Rockland.

Back on November 4th members of the OPP Drug Enforcement Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit along with the Russell County Detachment executed a Drugs and Substances Act Warrant to search a business called "RJ's Bar" in Rockland which led to the man's arrest.

Police seized 3 cocaine "folds" totalling approximately 1 gram of cocaine, 3.5 grams of cannabis resin, and undisclosed amount of cash and drug related equipment.

37 year old Jason Murray from Eganville is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a controlled substance.

Soldiers Comming Home

Soldiers from CFB Petawawa and reservists from across the province are returning home after a seven month tour in Afghanistan.

Approximately 2,300 soldiers of Task Force 1-10 will begin returning to CFB Petawawa this week, with the last soldiers of their deployment home by the end of December.

On Remembrance Day a large contingent of troops will be reunited with their families in Petawawa.
